Fraction cards are a simple and powerful way to help students make sense of fractions. They invite learners to notice relationships, compare values, and build strategies that go beyond memorizing rules.
As you just saw, fraction cards can be used in many different ways. They are great for introducing fractions, exploring equivalence, and working with operations. The beauty of these cards is in their flexibility. They give students a hands-on tool to reason with, and they open the door to conversations that build true understanding. With repeated use, students begin to see fractions as numbers they can work with confidently rather than as something to memorize.

I am an instructional coach, and this video has been helpful a giving me knowledge to share with teachers as they work through fractions with students. I appreciate you giving explanations and examples in your video. Thank you! Kristina
I am teaching a college-level class to future elementary school teachers and have referenced your work frequently. We are starting fractions tomorrow, and your videos and these cards will be shared. Thank you!
Fraction cards please!
Love this! I cannot get the download button to work. It will not allow me to click it.
Hello! Great video, thank you. May I have access to the Fraction Cards.
Hi Graham,
I love the cards and the activities. One qustion about the video- I may have misunderstood, but it looked to me that int he “add a Half” section you were adding one half to two thirds you said it was one and one third. As you know this one is a bit more tricky because kids will have to find a way to add with different denominators, and the sum is one and one sixth. Is that right?
Thanks!
Holly
You are correct, Holly! The answer is 1 1/6 (one and one-sixth). Everybody makes mistakes! I did a double-take on that one.
Hello! I double checked and I still got 1 and 2/6. When you double, you are shading in 4 of the six pieces leaving you with a total of 8 shaded which is an improper fraction, then converted into a mixed number of 1 and 2/6.
Hello,
I’m excited to try these fraction cards but I am not able to download them. The download button shows red but then when I go to click on it it goes white.
Any help would be appreciate.
Thanks,
Sarah
I’m excited to try these.
Thank you for the Three-Act-Tasks! I am just beginning to use them in my fifth grade classroom.
