**Presented at**: Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics Conference

**Date: **10-17-2014

**Title of Presentation: **2014 GaDOE 5th Grade Summer Mathematics Academy in a Nutshell: Teaching Beyond the Test

**Overview: **Intuitively as teachers we help our students too much. We need to become less helpful in math class if our students are to succeed mathematically. In this workshop, participants will further understand the importance of the 8 Standards of Mathematics Practice and the role they play in math class. Participants will engage in 3-Act tasks and recognize how the SMPs are amplified through the use of patient problem solving.
